FAQ's

Have a question about planning your visit with us? Here are a few frequently asked questions, and if these don’t help you, please email us or call (641) 594-3325.

When Visiting Van Wijk Winery:

1.  Can I visit the winery without an appointment?

Our Tasting Room is open to individuals without an appointment on Thursdays and Fridays from 1-6pm and Saturdays from 11am-6pm.

To ensure the best experience for all guests, we require pre-arranged appointments for groups.  This allows us to provide personalized attention and maintain an intimate atmosphere.

2.  Can I bring children or pets?

For the comfort and enjoyment of all guests, we do not encourage pets or young children on the property.  Exceptions are made for service animals and infants.

3.  Can your winery accommodate guests with mobility needs?

Yes, we can accommodate guests with mobility needs, but kindly ask that you contact us in advance to ensure appropriate accommodations.

4.  What type of beverages are offered?

Our Tasting Room offers 40 different wines, meads, dessert and sparkling wines, as well as craft beers, pre-mixed cocktails, and no-alcohol beverages.

5.  What type of food is offered?

Our Bistro Ballroom provides a delightful setting for sipping wine and enjoying light, flavorful appetizers. Whether you’re craving dips with either crackers or tortilla chips, or various sized charcuterie boards with options that range in cheeses, salamis, and olives to chocolate covered almonds, it's perfect for unwinding with friends or indulging in a solo wine-tasting adventure.

Why do we no longer allow you to bring in outside food?

Like other businesses that are managing to sustain operations in this difficult economy, our business model has changed to help ensure our economic survival.  Thoughtful management of our wine and food operations is currently our way of ensuring we will be here in the future.  Ever hear of a local winery closing operations and becoming a housing development?

While we appreciate that this change may be discouraging to some who have used our facility and grounds in the past as a picnic area to host their family and friends, we hope you understand that approach was not helping the winery to keep up with inflation or maintain staff employment despite labor shortages.

We hope our new approach will be appreciated by customers who want to see our winery survive, grow, and prosper in the years ahead as we prepare our second and third generations of family winemakers.  For customers who we lose, we hope you regard your times with us with fond memories.
